Legalizing US Online Gambling
The US congress is in the process of legalizing online gambling. The goal is to tax and regulate the industry. The main roadblock to legalizing online gambling is to get members of congress to agree that prohibition is not working and will eventually cause war between the US and other countries. Support for House of Representatives Bill 2046, known as the Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act (IGREA)
2007, is gaining momentum with other Congressmen agreeing to support the legislation. IGREA was introduced in April '07 by
Frank and could license and regulate online gambling in the United States. Online poker and gambling companies licensed under
this bill would be exempt from the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA), which was passed in October '06.
